The style of this solo guitar introduction recalls the playing of George Van Eps. Over a low E pedal tone, Freddie plays root position minor triads and closes with an E13b9 chord. This brief interlude might be a "tip of the hat" from Freddie to Van Eps, the father of big band rhythm guitar.
